For efficient execution of its duties, Pact Tanzania is looking for enthusiastic, creative, energetic individuals to fill the following internship positions:

Internship Title: Intern to Pilot a Mental Health Screening Tool among OVC 

Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Reporting To: Senior Technical Advisor

Duration: May – September 2018

Introduction of USAID Kizazi Kipya Project:

USAID Kizazi Kipya is a caring for children and young people five-year project (2016-2021). It is funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project aims to enable one million Tanzanian orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and young people affected by HIV/AIDS utilizing age-appropriate HIV/AIDS-related and other services for improved care, health, nutrition, education, protection, livelihoods, and psycho-social well-being.

Program Goals & Results:

The overall goal of USAID Kizazi Kipya is to ensure children and youth thrive and survive through sustainable improvements in health and social well-being. To achieve this goal, Kizazi Kipya seeks to reach the following results as indicated below:

 

RESULT 1: Parents and caregivers have the financial resources to meet the needs of vulnerable children and adolescents.

RESULT 2: Parents and caregivers have the skills to meet the needs of HIV-infected and vulnerable children and adolescents

RESULT 3: High quality services are available to HIV-infected and vulnerable children and adolescents

RESULT 4: High quality services are available to “hard-to-reach” HIV infected and vulnerable children and adolescents




Scope of Work:

Under Result 2, the intern will oversee the pilot of the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9) among OVC caregivers in either Kinondoni or llala, which includes:

  1. Designing pilot with Pact’s Senior Technical Advisor, including the schedule, number of caregivers for the PHQ-9 to be administered, etc.
  2. Orienting Community Case Workers (CCWs) on how to administer the tool, score the tool, and actions based on scores
  3. Developing and delivering a short training for CCWs, based off the Mental Health Gap Action Programme (MHGAP) curriculum, so that CCWs have the skills to provide basic support for caregivers who score 1-8 on the PHQ-9; administer and analyze pre/post test results of the training.
  4. Oversee use of the PHQ-9 in the field; provide psychological counseling and support for OVC caregivers who score 9 and above on the PHQ-9 including conducting follow up visits; provide urgent care for potential suicide cases.
  5. Provide mentoring to CCWs as needed to strengthen their skills to provide basic counseling support for caregivers who score 1-8 on the PHQ-9.
  6. Refine CCW training curriculum, based on the MHGAP as needed and finalize training package for potential use in other councils.
  7. Analyze results from the PHQ-9 and develop and submit a pilot report.

 

Requirements:

  • Masters in clinical psychology candidate
  • Knowledge of mental health and clinical screening procedures
  • Experience in providing clinical psychology services
  • Knowledge in survey design and conducting pilots,
  • Data analysis skills

 

Job Title: Temporary Finance Assistants (2 positions)

Location: Dar es Salaam

Reports to:  Finance Officer GA

Specific Duties:

  • Scanning all financial documents
  • Filling all the financial documents
  • Carry out other Finance related duties assigned by the Finance Officer.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Fresh Graduates in Advance Diploma or Degree in Finance or Accounting
    • Good written and oral communications skills
    • Well knowledgeable with excel
    • Fast learner
    • Should be a resident of the cluster s/he is applying for
