FAO is seeking for suitably qualified and experience person to undertake the following assignment under the FAO programme in Tanzania
NATIONAL CONSULTANT – AGRICULTURE OFFICER – POST
FAO will work with other UN agencies to implement agriculture theme under the Kigoma Joint Programme, the main objective of the agriculture is increase farm income of smallholder farmers in agriculture while lowering the risk of investment and increasing the private engagement
Reporting lines
The agriculture officer will work under the overall guidance of the FAO representative and the direct supervise of the assistant FAO representatives and technical direction from the lead technical officer at the sub-regional office operational/admin staff of the project executed by FAO- Tanzania
Task and responsibilities
The incumbent will undertake the following duties and responsibilities
a) Provide technical leadership in implementation of FAO Climate smart Agriculture good agriculture practices specifically for priority commodities (maize, cassava, and pluses) and livestock sector, food security and nutrition interventions under Kigoma Joint programme in kigoma region
b) Lead the development and implementation of strategies to strengthen producer organization though farmer field schools and junior farmer field and life skills approaches
c) Support LGA partners to prepare project beneficiary identification and selection criteria and procedure
d) Strengthen capacities of local government authorities in developing implementing and effectively coordinating resilience strategies and plans
e) Prepare technical specification for the inputs to be purchased under the project in consultant with regional and district technical officers
f) Supervise the district of inputs and monitor implementation of field activities by the services provider contracted by FAO
g) Advocate and lobby for additional investment in the development of agriculture, food security, nutrition and sustainable management of natural resources in Kigoma Region
REQUIREMENTS
– National of URT
– Advanced university degree in areas of agriculture food security, nutirion, agriculture economics, rural development or related fields
– At least 5 years’ experience in agriculture food security agriculture economics and rural development or related fields
– 3 yrs. direct involvement in promoting nutrition – sensitive agriculture
– Good facilitation skills and ability to conduct community level workshop/ seminars
– Relevant experience of working with local and regional partners involved with agriculture development
– Ability to manage time and resources efficiently monitoring progress and making adjustment as necessary to deliver set standards and deadlines
– Experience or knowledge of UN systems is an added advantage
